LG Innotek: UV LED technology will focus on the global water treatment market

LG Innotek, a subsidiary of LG, announced Wednesday that its ultraviolet light-emitting diode technology will focus on the global water treatment market, especially in China, according to foreign media reports.

"" LG Innotek is the most competitive company in the UV LED space, so we aim to be the number one company in the UV LED space," "Park jong-seok, chief executive officer of LG Innotek, said at a press conference held at its Seoul headquarters.

The company said it has developed a 150-milliwatt UV LED chip this year and will increase its power to 200 milliwatts next year.

LG Innotek is better known as a supplier of smartphone camera modules, and is the leading supplier of dual cameras for apple's iPhone.

Currently, 2-10 milliwatt ultraviolet light is widely used in water, air purifiers and other household appliances. This powerful uv over 100 milliwatts will be used to sterilize large industrial facilities such as water treatment, hospital sanitation and large manufacturing facilities.

Park jong-seok said, "" we have gained various connections in China, and in daily life, more and more places will use UV leds, for example, for the maintenance of escalator handrails in public places." "

According to LEDinside, the output value of the UV LED market will grow to 288 million us dollars (about 1.956 billion yuan) in 2017. In 2020, the figure will be 526 million us dollars (equivalent to about 3.573 billion RMB yuan), and the compound growth rate (CAGR) will reach 34% from 2015 to 2020.

"Innotek's 100-milliwatt ultraviolet (uv) can remove 99.9 percent of salmonella in 3.4 seconds, proving it can effectively kill a variety of viruses and fungi," said Kang dong-hyun, a professor at Seoul national university.
